Getting out of your own head and letting art happen is not an easy thing. For me, the construction of my mindless three dimensional Day of the Dead pieces was the beginning. The energy of the creative process when it is allowed to take over and leave your mind behind is incomparable. Abstract painting is for me the most freeing and exciting process. My technique has been acrylics in multiple layers, sometimes digging back into the layers, sometimes adding more layers. Recently I began to explore encaustic painting, which has opened a whole new creative world. Color is always the most important quality, mixed with a little mystery and a lot of humor. There is always that wonderful little surprise when you realize it works.
